The purpose of this thesis is to study the level of democracy within the European Union (EU). To do so the following issues were examined: How the EU works and the efforts it has made to improve levels of democracy; and the degree to which the EU fulfils the criteria set by Robert Dahl in his theory of polyarchy.The study is based on a qualitative text analysis. The focus of the analysis is documents released by the EU that can be connected to democracy, and human and fundamental rights. The theory of polyarchy proposed by Robert Dahl and Joseph Schumpeter?s theory of democracy are the principal theories applied.

In modern, Swedish political science there are different ways of looking at ?democracy?. A very common distinction is that between three groups of democratic theories: electoral democracy, participation democracy and deliberative democracy.The nowadays frequently used concept of electoral democracy is often used as synonymous with the older concept of repre­­­­sen­tative or indirect democracy ? frequently regarded as a contrast to the direct democracy of ancient Athens. However, there are also important differences.

Genom historien har det skrivits en ansenlig mängd material kring teorier om demokrati av både deskriptiv och normativ karaktär. Joseph A Schumpeter tillhör en i samlingen av författare som utformat demokratiteorier genom att beskriva demokratin som han uppfattar den. Schumpeter anser att det handlar om en elit som konkurrerar om folkets röster för att få utöva makt. Pluralisterna tillför ytterligare en dimension till den deskriptiva demokratiteorin då de tar in intressegruppernas roll i det politiska systemet. C B Macpherson, Carole Pateman och John Burnheim har reagerat på dessa deskriptiva teorier och demokratin som de upplevt den.

The purpose of this study is to investigate how the authors of Matthew and Luke describe Joseph; The main aim is to see how the picture of him is drawn in the infancy narratives of their respectiveGospels; what unites, and what distinguishes the pictures of the two evangelists' account of Joseph,as a character and as a father.With the help of both textual and grammatical criticism, this study investigates - pericope bypericope - different aspects of Joseph's participation in the infancy narratives of Matthew and Luke; his relationship to the child and the mother, the terms used to describe him, and his overall modusoperandi. This essay builds its structure upon the individual study of each pericope, with the aim of painting a general and summarized picture.From the outset of already formulated uniting characteristics of the two gospels, as stated in Raymond E Brown's The Birth of the Messiah this study proposes that more can be said about the common features of Matthew and Luke, especially concerning Joseph's both character and relationto the child. First, this study suggests that both Matthew and Luke describe Joseph as the legal father of Jesus; second, both evangelists seems to describe Joseph as observant of Jewish law andcustom.The main impression of the two evangelists' birth narratives is however the differencesconcerning the description of Joseph. This study shows that there is one major common feature: the ambivalence evident in the evangelists' way of describing Joseph. On the one hand, both Matthew and Luke prescribe Joseph some importance; Matthew by describing Joseph and letting him act,Luke by calling him father and parent.

Zakrisdal and the west coast region of Karlstad was at one time a protected area where the ammunition factory AmF Zakrisdal 1941-1994 was situated. This factory manufactured explosives for the Swedish armed forces and for export. In this context it is an interesting paradox that the production of ammunition, mines and armorpiercing grenades for more than 50 years has preserved the environment surrounding the factory.The factory is now gone and the production is moved to Karlskoga. Plans are being made to build housing for 3-4000 residents and other enterprises within the area. The area now stands before yet another change, most likely the most profound to date.The inspiration for this work comes from the economic historic Jan Jörnmark.

Entrepreneurship as playing a important role for economic growth has been discussed by a number of theorists such as Joseph Schumpeter and Israel M. Kirzner. William J. Baumol developed these theories as he considered that all entrepreneurship doesn?t lead to economic growth, some entrepreneurial activities may even lead to stagnation.

Since none of W.A Mozart's own cadenzas for his Violin Concerto no. 4 in D major have been preserved, and there is only one existing standard cadenza by Joseph Joachim, I have chosen to write my own cadenza, but in the end I decided to write three cadenzas. As a background to my thesis I analyzed and studied the different motives in the first movement, as well as four cadenzas from different eras. I made a comparison of these four cadenzas, looking at how the composers have used the different themes and motives from the concerto. I have also explained the meaning and purpose of the term cadenza.

Nobel Prize Laureate Joseph Brodsky is a key figure in Soviet Russian literature. Expelled from the USSR in 1972, he became a US citizen in 1977 and Poet Laureate of the United States in 1991. In this essay, I have sought to examine the state of exile perceived in Brodsky?s poems. Using Russian literary critic Viktor Shklovsky?s concept of defamiliarization, I have strived to illuminate the formal composition of this state ? its technique.

Denna uppsats syftar till att göra en religionsvetenskaplig analys av filmen Thor från 2011.De grundläggande metoderna som använts i arbetet är en diskursanalysmetod som är influerad av Simon Lindgrens populärkulturella arbetsfält, och en komparativ studie av Joseph Campbells teoriom monomyten.Våra tolkningar och arbetet kommer fram till att Thor passar in i Campbells teori om monomyten.This essay aims to make a religious scientific based analysis of the movie Thor from 2011.The basic methods used in this work are a discourse analysis, influenced by Simon Lindgren?s popular culture field of expertise, and a comparative study of Joseph Campbell's theory of the monomyth.Our interpretations and this work concludes that Thor fits into Campbell's theory of the monomyth. The results imply that Campbell's theory proves to be applicable in modern times narration on film. Events and actors in the film fit with several elementary parts in a hero-myth according to Campbell..

Denna studie är en analys av romanen Heart of Darkness (1902) och novellen An outpost ofprogress (1898) av Joseph Conrad (1857-1924) i syfte att undersöka berättelsernashuvudsakliga tematik ur en postkolonial infallsvinkel samt vad Conrads avsikt tycks ha varitmed porträtteringen av elfenbensagenten Kurtz. För att genomföra denna analys har jag gjorten närläsning av Heart of Darkness samt An outpost of progress och samtidigt tolkathändelseförloppen.Tolkningarna är delvis mina egna samt delvis baserat på tidigare forskning. Efter att hagenomfört dessa närläsningar är min slutsats att Conrads huvudsakliga avsikt var att skildaden mänskliga moralens förfall genom den ondskefulla girigheten. Det är denna girighet somhan definierar som det mörka i en människas hjärta. Genom framställningen av Kurtz visarhan exempel på detta samt hur farlig en skicklig retoriker kan vara..

Sveriges regering har under de senaste åren uppmärksammat och främjat dagens och morgondagens entreprenörer i deras innovativa arbete för att skapa en framtida tillväxt. Dessa tankar är inget nytt utan har existerat i den ekonomiska forskningen under en längre tid.  Joseph Schumpeter var nationalekonomen som tidigt såg kopplingen mellan entreprenören dess innovationer och tillväxt. Han identifierade innovationen som en skapare av tillväxt då den hade förmågan att bryta ned ineffektiva monopol- och oligopolstrukturer och ersätta dessa med en mer fri och effektiv marknadssituation. Innovationer uppstår ofta ur en process och att förklara denna kan vara problematiskt. För att beskriva denna process används ofta modeller framtagna ur studier av företag som arbetar med att frambringa nya innovationer.I en innovationsprocess finns det ett antal intressanta aspekter att titta på.

I ett bredare perspektiv är uppsatsen ett försök att uppmärksamma den i nationalekonomiska sammanhang negligerade entreprenören. Uppsatsen vidareutvecklar Claudio Michelaccis matchningsfunktion där teknologisk tillväxt får konstant avkastning om allokeringen till forskning och entreprenörskap är genomtänkt, något han finner stöd för i USA. Uppsatsen testar samma funktion på 23 industriländer och finner ett tämligen gott stöd för hans antagande..

I denna uppsats undersöks den engelska ing-satsen som har samord-ningsfunktion och hur den översätts till svenska. I en kontrastiv undersökning jämför jag en äldre översättning, gjord av Vera och Stig Dahlstedt, av Lord Jim som Joseph Conrad har skrivit, med en yngre översättning gjord av Nils Holmberg. Syftet är att, med hjälp av tidigare syntaxundersökningar av översättningar, jämföra hur två översättningar liknar/skiljer sig från varandra och originaltexten. Undersökningens fokus ligger på form, funktion och struktur och behandlar ing-satserna som har fått namnet koordinationsfraser och är samordnade satser, i de tidigare studierna. Till en början hade jag visionen om att finna en förändring av syntax mellan den tidigare och senare översättningen som jag kunde härleda till viljan att översätta den engelska ing-formen med en svensk presens participform.

The aim of this thesis is to model my artistic practice on an adaptation of Joseph Campbells monomyth and, using this model, investigate challenges of performativity in art (in public spaces). The overall themes are personal, aesthetic and ethical sovereignty and an uncompromising search for a deepening of the artistic practice. More than anything else it is a map and a story of an artist?s expansion out into an artistic field that is little developed in Sweden. It is my hope that this thesis, by using a thoroughly subjective tone, will contribute to the milieu of performative arts in Sweden as well as widen the ?how? regarding the making of a written thesis..
